Product description

This is a superior Yixing Ware Teapot that combines art with practical usage. For centuries, Yixing teapots are known to be the best vessel for brewing tea. With continued usage, the porous teapot will absorb the aroma and flavors of your tea. It is noted that if you use a Yixing Teapot for many years, you can brew tea by just pouring boiling water into the empty pot, but again, this is after many many years of usage. They have the ability to withstand high temperatures and are slow to conduct heat so the handle remains comfortably cool even when pouring very hot tea. These items typically are smaller than modern teapots because the traditional Chinese method of drinking tea can include many servings therefore with this vessel, tea can be brewed quickly and assures that the tea is served without any bitterness that may occur when tea is steeped too long. What a perfect way to make tea time a memorable experience.

Teapot measures 4" x 7.25", with a capacity of 10 oz.; Cups measure 3.5" x 2" with a capacity of 2 oz.

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Yixing clay teapots are made from Yixing clay. This traditional style commonly used to brew tea originated in China, dating back to the 15th century, and are made from clay produced in the region of the town of Yixing in the eastern Chinese province of Jiangsu. Archaeological excavations reveal that as early as the Song Dynasty (10th century) potters near Yixing were using local "zhisha" clay to make utensils that could have functioned as teapots. The late Ming Dynasty author Zhou Gaoqi stated that during the reign of the Zhengde Emperor (1502-1521) a monk from Jinsha Temple (Golden Sand Temple) in Yixing handcrafted a fine quality teapot from local clay. Such fine quality teapots soon became popular with the scholarly class, and the fame of...

How to season yixing teapot?

I personally adore yixing teapots, there is no other tea accessories I like more. They are mostly used for brewing oolong and puerh teas. I’ve got already four of them which I use mostly brewing oolong teas. Yixing teapots are both aesthetic and functional. These beauties take their names after their place of origin which is Yixing in Jiangsu province. It’s common practice among tea connoisseurs to use one specific yixing teapot for each kind of tea. Because the clay that are used to make yixing teapots can absorb the aroma and flavors of each steeping. Over time teapot is so identified with the tea itself which in result increases the quality of each steeping. So you have your new yixing teapot and excited to use it asap but there is one thing you have to do before using it: you have to season it. It may seem tad haunting but believe me it’s a simple process. Last month I bought and seasoned a new yixing teapot meant to be used for only sheng puerhs. You can find main steps below if you happen to be needing some help with your new yixing teapot. Firstly I rinsed my new Yixing teapot under warm water thoroughly in order to get rid of sands or any kind of debris etc. Secondly I put both teapot and lid in a saucepot and cover them with warm water. Then I rinsed it with hot water one more time and put it away. Following the third step, your yixing teapot will be ready to use. Yixings teapots are generally used for oolong and puerh teas. And It’s a good practice to dedicate each one of your yixing teapots for just one type of tea. If you are lucky enough to have more than e few yixing teapots then consider using one for greener oolongs and one for darker oolongs. Similarly one for sheng puerhs and one for shou puerhs. I’ll use mine just for sheng puerhs.
